The low-down: Pastel shades pack a punch this spring, reinvented in a harder mould, with richer, more vibrant shades than ever. Think 80s, with a futuristic twist.
Seen at: Zac Posen, Rodarte, Louise Goldin, Aquascutum, Temperley, Gucci.
2. The New Nude

The low-down: It's said time and time again, but perfecting the natural look is one of the trickiest beauty skills to master. This season it's more skilled than ever, with neutral shades used to sculpt, shade and highlight cheekbones, lips and the contours of the face.
Seen at: Calvin Klein, Julien Macdonald, Tory Burch.
3. Nouveau Red

The low-down: Red lips were in abundance across the spring catwalks, but one thing was constant, the look was more show stopping than sultry. The red reinvention sees the classic crimson pout in a more youthful mood - set against dewy fresh skin, and in fuchsia rich hues. 'Young fresh and fun-loving' was Charlotte Tilbury's take on the look at Sonia Rykiel, where models took to the catwalks with 'rose/fuschia' lips.
Seen at: Luella, Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors, Sonia Rykiel, Thakoon.
4. Cat's Eyes

The low-down: Smoky eyes were sultry and romantic for spring/summer '09, with a distinct feline edge. Go for a look that's more smudgy and slept-in than polished and precise, for an update on the make-up classic.
Seen at: Roberto Cavalli, Louis Vuitton, Marios Scwab, Matthew Williamson, Carolina Herrera. Yves Saint Laurent.
5. Luminosity

The low-down: Dubbed 'hydra luminous,' ultra dewy skin took centre stage at the spring/summer '09 shows. A natural iridescent look, that is surprisingly high-tech, MAC make-up artist Tom Pecheaux, explains, 'It's about using every single product that gives skin an upgrade.'
Seen at: Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, Richard Chai, Preen, Burberry.
6. Vibrant Violet

The low-down: Shades of lilac created statement lips and eyes, drenched in glossy pops of colour.
Seen at: Zac Posen, Todd Lynn, Modernist.
7. Bold Brows

The low-down: Statement brows were back again for spring. Exaggerated and prominent at Marni, Marchesa and DKNY, this was a look of extremes. Take the Marc Jacobs show, where models took the catwalk with barely-there bleached brows.
Seen at: Givenchy, Marni, Marchesa, DKNY, Marc Jacobs.
8. Metallic Texture

The low-down: Metallic shimmering shades created texture across the spring/summer '09 catwalks, emerging as a key trend of the season. Bobbi Brown experimented with the look at Erin Fetherston, where she explained, 'I used a combination of glitter, shimmer and glossy textures around the eyes' to create a look that was, 'angelic and ethereal, like ballerinas.'
Seen at: Jill Stuart, Zac Posen, Behnaz Sarafpour, Erin Fetherston.
9. Peachy Glow

The low-down: 'Fresh, glowy and healthy' is how Pat McGrath described the look at Dolce & Gabbana, where she sculpted cheekbones with a peachy cream blush. It wasn't just cheeks that got the peach treatment this season, the shade lit up eyes at Balmain and plumped up lips at Rodarte.
Seen at: Rodarte, Nicole Farhi, Dolce & Gabbana.
10. Candy Nails

The low-down: From fruity brights at John Galliano and Nathan Jenden, to frothy ice cream shades at Chanel and Paul Smith, nails are pretty and playful for spring.
Seen at: Paul Smith, Chanel, John Galliano, Nathan Jenden.
